Custom Kitchen Cabinets in Dubai and Sharjah: Materials, Designs, and What to Expect

15 December 2024 · Khat Al Barq Doors & Windows Factory

Why Custom Kitchens?

Off-the-shelf kitchen systems from furniture retail chains rarely fit UAE villa and hotel room layouts precisely. Custom kitchen cabinets allow you to maximise every centimetre of your floor plan, match your interior design scheme exactly, and specify materials suited to the UAE climate.

For hotels and serviced apartments, custom kitchens also allow specification of commercial-grade materials and hardware that will withstand heavy use over years.

Cabinet Materials Used in UAE Custom Kitchens

MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard)

MDF is the most common substrate for painted kitchen cabinets. It takes paint smoothly and is dimensionally stable. For UAE kitchens, specify moisture-resistant (MR) MDF grade — standard MDF will swell in humid environments.

Melamine-Faced Board

Melamine boards are durable, easy to clean, and available in hundreds of colours and textures including wood grain. Suitable for both carcase construction and door faces. Cost-effective and practical for rental and hotel applications.

Solid Wood and Veneer

Solid Meranti, Beech, or Oak doors give kitchens a premium feel and are often used in villa and palace projects. Veneer-faced MDF offers the appearance of solid wood at lower cost and with better dimensional stability.

Aluminium Frame Kitchens

Aluminium-framed kitchen doors with glass or acrylic panels have become popular in UAE modern interior design. They are highly durable, moisture-resistant, and create a light, contemporary aesthetic.

Kitchen Design Styles Popular in UAE

Modern/Handleless: Clean, flat-front cabinets with push-to-open or J-pull handles. Very popular in contemporary Dubai apartments and villas.

Shaker Style: Classic recessed-panel doors in white or cream — as seen in villa projects across Al Zahia and Mudon. Timeless and works well with statement countertops.

Classic/Traditional: Raised-panel doors in lacquer or veneer, often with ornate hardware. Frequently specified for larger villas and palace-style projects.

Navy or Dark Tones: Bold colour kitchens — navy, forest green, charcoal — with white stone countertops are increasingly popular in UAE villa fit-outs.

What to Expect: The Custom Kitchen Process

1. Site survey and measurement

Your kitchen manufacturer visits the site to take precise measurements. Never commission a custom kitchen from drawings alone — site dimensions always differ.

2. 3D design and approval

You receive a detailed 3D render of the proposed layout for your approval. Revisions are made until you are satisfied. Nothing goes into production without signed approval.

3. Material selection

Cabinet carcases, door materials, countertop material (granite, quartz, or solid surface), hardware brands, and handles are all confirmed and samples approved.

4. Production

Manufacturing typically takes 3–6 weeks depending on complexity and order volume. A factory-direct manufacturer will give you a more reliable timeline than a reseller.

5. Installation

The team arrives on site in sequence with other trades. Countertops are templated after cabinets are installed. Snagging is completed before handover.
